There were a few movies that came out last week; Horton Hears a Who (which was the winner of the weekend), Never Back Down (a carbon copy of the Fast and the Furious but with pit fighting!), College Road Trip... you get it by now, there was a lot of boring stuff this week.
But Funny Games is not. A shot by shot remake of an Austrian movie of the same name, Funny Games is difficult, disturbing, provoking and challenging. Two insane youths kidnap and torture an innocent family, playing games with both them and you the audience in rapid abundance. Watching it makes you think a bit, possibly makes you recoil a bit but at least it gives you a reaction other than the warm feeling of when a fictional movies ends in the way that makes all the soccer mom’s happy. Catch it if you can, or grab it when it comes out on DVD.
