Even if the finale was good to most, was the last season really ending on a good note? They got time slot moved by ABC a couple times...hell, they aired an episode on tuesday before the finale which seemed kind of random. Seemed like JD was the most annoying part of the show in the later seasons, with him gone, i think they can get the show back to being good.

This thread is the first I've seen it called a "series" finale.

Wikipedia says they are in talks with ABC for another season...I mean, it seems hard to understand why ABC would take over an nbc show and just run it for one season. Especially considering the lengths they went to in order to try and establish new characters.

Quote:
On April 28, 2009 it was announced that ABC was in talks to renew Scrubs for another year,[55] however, if this were to happen, some of the cast may or may not be back [due to other commitments], or only back part time.

Ohh, I hadn't heard that before.

I think the core cast made Scrubs as good as it was. Without them it would just be a mediocre medical comedy.

sure, which is why the tried to introduce new characters if some of them are going to be leaving.

JDs character was pretty shitty the last couple of seasons.

My perspective is, I didn't start watching ANY scrubs until last fall. Then watched a ton of it...was mainly bored from unemployment and looking for a new show to watch. And, it's very easy to tell what time period an episode is from.

So, I mean, with JD the past couple years it's not like they were pumping out real good episodes, it was definitely "mediocre medical comedy" already, but having some new characters, getting rid of ones that clearly didn't want to be there (JD), the show might get back to where it was.

As Maitland stated, it's only officially the JD Finale, but it MAY be the series finale as well so they shot it with that in mind. They are in negotiations but who knows what will happen. There's a decent interview with Bill Lawrence, the creator, here.

Also I find JD to be funny sometimes and sometimes as of late kind of annoying, but I do think he was integral to the plot and the episodes without him this season (I think there were three) I felt like they needed another anchor character besides Turk, as much as he is my favorite.

Maitland, I don't know if you are watching the shows in syndication or on DVD but there is NO COMPARISON. Unfortunately many viewers that are newer to Scrubs aren't aware that they cut out about 4 minutes of the show when it's shown on Comedy Central or elsewhere...usually some really funny bits that aren't vital to the plot. So some of the absolute most funny Scrubs moments do not make it to the screen once it's in syndication (they ran at their actual length on NBC and now ABC). The reason is the show is longer than most to allow for more plot and funny stuff and fewer commercials but the channels that air it have standard length allowances and it just doesn't fit. SO WATCH THEM ON DVD IF YOU HAVENT. Again you aren't missing some of the plot for the most part...just some of the most hysterical little bits and pieces that truly make the show a cut above the rest.

Hrm...just read this on the Chicago Tribune site-

In other renewal news, ABC is bringing back "Castle" and "Scrubs." Zach Braff and Sarah Chalke will come back for multiple episodes of the show's ninth season, and Donald Faison, John C. McGinley and Neil Flynn will all be back full-time, according to this story. UPDATE: Michael Ausiello reports that "Better Off Ted" has been renewed also.

What a way to ruin a perfectly amazing ending.

Yeah, as much as I was sad to see it go I liked how it ended, but now apparently NONE of it is ending, not even JD. But from how I read that, Turk, Cox and Janitor will be the main characters and Elliot and JD will only show up multiple times. But STILL, I really thought it was a great note to go out on and I'm not sure they can top that.
