That can't possibly be right as we all know Obama's stimulus package has saved America and brought in dozens of jobs.

I've decided that the gov't can not create a single job. they can only give back the ones they've stolen.

hiring gov't a employee does not create a job. it just shifts one out of the private sector at 150% of the cost.

One of my companies provides services to the DoD (surprise surprise!) and there is nothing productive about it (though, we do an excellent job, srysly). Even the lifelong employees of teh DoD know this. Fuck you guys need me to write a book for idiots or something to explain shit to you

I always wondered what the online forum equivalent of a bunch of old crappers playing checkers in a general store was.

this thread is it.

all that's left is Narragansett or Black Label. I think they come with cigarette butts in them before you even open them.

Well considering that streets eventually get repaved, and water mains and sewers eventually get fixed, and streets get plowed eventually, and garbage gets picked up, and street lights mostly work...

Listen dude, I know it's hard to be educated by a younger dude, but you need to understand what you're saying there and how it's completely wrong, dude. Productivity is like, what goes in and what comes out. So like, if the government paved a road, it's not actually the government, its contractors or employees of the government and you're footing the bill. Governments are intangible and therefore simply unable to be productive by its very nature of intangibility. And if a government is not... which many would argue... (let me mention there is a legal argument to be had that they are a person) there is still no productivity as they are actually taking from somewhere else, and redirecting productivity and not creating it.

I think what you meant to say is something like, 'ballsack, why water runs and when i flick the switch the lights work,' and all that is an omission of government incompetence, because Government made none of it though they may have directed it. They are NOT productive.

Get it?

if you only get 30% productivity of your dollar after it goes through the gov't employees, what's your point?

The point is you don't get it.

The point is that you are splitting hairs.

In all of the cases I mentioned, where I live, the services are performed by the city. Yes, the city takes the money in the form of taxes, but we need those services anyway, so we would have to purchase them no matter what. It has been shown in numerous examples, that when the city asks for private bids, the work could be performed by contractors for significantly less money. And that doesn't factor in things like a reduced need for building space, administrative employees, and legacy costs like pensions and healthcare for retirees.

So if you want to substitute the word efficient for productive, then meh. But that wan't my point.

Biz's remark that the gov't doesn't create jobs, it takes one from the private sector at 150% of the cost is about right, but not quite, because the gov't workers actually accomplish (produce) significantly less per day than a civilian worker would.

any project based work should be bid out in my opinion. makes no sense to pay crews that are able to build things if there is nothing to be built at the time.

conversely, i would fucking strangle someone if they tried to bid out things like firefighters or cops. out taxes should go to pay those guys to sit around. but not...ditch diggers or whatever

Why? What makes those jobs any different?

The two strongest unions in my town (and most) are the cops and firemen, and they are bunch of self-serving, extortionist douchnozzles.

If it can be done cheaper and more efficiently in the private sector, the jobs should be privatized.

For the same reason that the military should not be privatized (unless there are still Hessians). I think that certain things are callings rather than a way to make a buck.

I dont see a scenario where cops and firemen or the military would be cheaper AND more efficient.

And fuck the unions. Poor fucking people building buildings in NYC have to pay oilers to sit there all day. OILERS! fucking unions
