“Dead Set” is a horror/thriller (with a bit of satire thrown in) series airing on channel E4 in the UK and Ireland. The series centers around the housemates and film crew inside the Big Brother House during a zombie outbreak. There really isn’t anything groundbreaking in this series, as far as ideas or concepts in the zombie genre go. There are fast moving, raging, 28 Days Later-like zombies, and they spread through biting the living. Fairly standard. But the show is engaging, and the premise is, I think, a pretty clever take on an older concept. If you are familiar with The UK’s version of Big Brother, you know it’s ridiculously popular; there’s even a channel dedicated to a live feed of the house for people to watch and veg out to. So naturally, the Big Brother house is the epicenter of the crisis, with zombies instinctively being drawn to the set. Yes, I know, very similar to that other movie. The series is well written, and has a good share of humor (Question: If a paraplegic becomes zombified, why would they not regain the ability to walk once reanimated?) in the mix. But most importantly, it has good gore, and a lot of suspenseful moments, which are keys to success in the zombie genre. The only thing that could have made it better for me would be sharks, and fights with said sharks. Maybe during the follow up series.

This isn’t a review as much as it is a heads-up pointing folks in the direction of a great mash up / mixtape. “Viva La Hova” presented by Terry Urban & Mick Boogie is a blending of Jay-Z and Coldplay songs. This is probably the most well executed mash up I’ve heard, as far as mixing rap with other forms of popular music goes. The producers who chopped up & sampled these songs deserve a lot of credit. The tape has a consistent vibe throughout, unlike so many other mash ups that seem to just paste together vocals and beats that don’t match. This mixtape makes me appreciate the Jay / Coldplay collaboration “Beach Chair;” it shows how well the artists’ sounds blend together. Hopefully there are more official collabs in the future, but if there aren’t, this a more than adequate substitute.

If you say something loud enough, long enough, people will start to believe it.
After listening to Tha Carter 3, that’s my general feeling toward the self proclaimed “Best Rapper Alive”. After successfully mixing his New Orleans southern rhyme swagger, with a more east coast mixtape rapper style & flow on The Carter, Wayne blessed himself with the “Best” moniker. Whether or not that was factually accurate is left up the listeners, but his subsequent work made it debatable. The Weezy hype really went into overdrive after The Carter 2 was released, when he dropped a slew of mixtapes(and a lot of material from a scrapped Carter 3 album) and appeared on what seemed to be every guest appearance and DJ Khaled song.

I came across some distressing photos of Madonna while browsing the internet tubes recently. Really, when did she become a zombified Chernobyl survivor? Oh yes, ten years ago. My first thought is, who can protect us from a megalomaniacal ghoul whose unhingable vagina is the place where lost souls go to die? The great hero Ash, of course. A sawed off shotgun and a chainsaw versus a creature who looks like she’s been training with Dhalsim from Street Fighter. Gotta watch out for those yoga flames.

Have you ever sat through a movie that had no redeeming qualities? Movies that Uwe Boll wouldn’t direct, with scripts that Steve Guttenberg (r.i.p) & Roddy Piper would toss in the trash can? I’ve seen some shit that made me think the filmmakers would’ve been better off breaking out the baby oil and hiring fluffers (and this is why Battlefield Earth will not be added). They have the actors, silly plots, and crappy dialog; why not make them watchable by having everyone bone?

Everyone has a facebook page nowadays, whether it’s for looking up old friends and keeping up with current ones, finding past classmates you liked, or checking to see if the hot girl you hated in high school now looks like a cave beast. Whatever the reasons are, everyone has one. That popularity drove us good folks at The Gallery to create a Facebook Page, but now there is a bit of confusion and we need your help.

Simon Rex has finally stepped out from beneath the shadows of former MTV Rock & Jock legends Bill Bellamy and Dan Cortez to carve his own niche in the entertainment industry ( I know you’ve all been waiting for that, btw). The former gay porn star turned VJ turned thespian, is now a myspace superstar/rapper who goes by the name Dirt Nasty. If you’re into tits, talking about your dick, listening to people talk about their dicks, Halo/Xbox live, and sexy chola love, Dirt Nasty will get heavy rotation in your iPod.
