Our Conversation with Charlotte
Which of your achievements to date are you most proud of?
Creating a space on the internet where women in horror can be celebrated and where only positive reviews of horror thrive. We don’t allow any negative reviews or clickbait titles on our site. If we didn’t like something, we don’t review it. We also celebrate indie horror authors and spotlight them a few times a month.
What’s your favorite horror film and why?
Scream. It was the first horror film that spoke to me as a child and really ignited my love for horror movies. I also adore and idolize Sidney Prescott.
Who is your hero in the horror world and why?
Rebekah McKendry because she is a bad ass horror writer, director, podcaster and she has a freakin’ PHD! She’s so inspiring. Also the Soska Twins because they continue to fight the good fight and stand up for what they believe in.
Share a practical tip for a woman who wants to do what you do.
Create a safe space around you. Fill your feeds with positive, fellow folks. I am constantly inspired and encouraged by my community. There’s a lot of hate out there, but you can do your part by blocking it out of your daily feed. Also, know that as a woman you will have to work twice as hard for half the credit. And understand that it doesn’t mean you can’t keep trying.
Inspire someone who is not where they want to be in the industry yet.
Just put in the work while also providing yourself with free time. Mental health is important, don’t drive yourself to madness. Take time off when you’re exhausted for feeling uninspired. And when you’re inspired – work, work, work. It took me 8 years to build my platform.
Scare the crap out of us with something you have done or plan on doing!
I’m not a scary person in real life, unless you count my anxiety.
What projects do you have coming up?
Horror Bound will be at the Vancouver Fan Expo from March 1st to the 3rd. We’ll be interviewing and photographing horror cosplayers and vendors. Come say hi!
