Our Conversation with Cori Coulter
Which of your achievements to date are you most proud of?
Being in movies and making movies is such an amazing achievement to me. The amount of time and work it takes is a lot of effort. I’m proud of all my works but mostly proud of achieving with the crew I get to work with from High Rock Pictures. We help build strengths and bring out the potential in people to step out of their comfort zone and into the realm of videography. My most recent role as a villain was very invigorating and exhausting. I’ve never played the role as a villain before. It was a tough feat snapping into a psychotic state of mind and then bouncing back to yourself. It’s very out of body like. There were days Martha’s voice would haunt me and I couldn’t stop talking in her accent. It was fun though and I’m proud of the work we did. Being a woman in horror and producing is something that just feels very natural to me. Achieving almost everything I can in the film industry is something I will be doing for the rest of my life.
What’s your favorite horror film and why?
I do love the horror genre more than anything its tough to just pick one movie. Overall, “Drop Dead Fred” is my all time favorite movie. It reminds me to always stay young at heart and never stop using our imagination. A classic I grew up with that probably helped me with my morbidness. Go watch it, lol
Who is your hero in the horror world and why?
I love all our lady hero’s in the horror realm. I can’t just name one but in the main stream, actress Jaime Lee Curtis, is top on the list. She has such a powerful entertaining on screen presence in any role she plays. Sissy Spacek, is just brilliant in everything she does. She understands how important directors are and molds herself deeply into the characters she plays. The movie “Carrie” 1976 by Stephen King was most inspirational to me growing up because Sissy put the fear of gawd in my soul to light! Thank ALL you ladies in horror for inspiring us!
Share a practical tip for a woman who wants to do what you do.
The world is your stage!! Do it for the love it! Shine with passion and most importantly have fun! Your foundation is everything. Always be respectful to your crew!
Inspire someone who is not where they want to be in the industry yet.
Be versatile! Never stop learning. Do your research. Listen. Be a master at everything, become an actress, director, producer, makeup artist, ninja! People will see your hustle and flow.
Scare the crap out of us with something you have done or plan on doing!
Giving birth to my first child was scary for me. I did my research and practice but it doesn’t fully prepare for you for the long enduring pain that is overwhelming either way you go. You have no control over it, it just happens bursting at the seams. I didn’t expect the amount of blood would leave me alive. It’s like a mini alien horror story people don’t tell you about. And I don’t plan on having any more babies for me in the future 😉 Two is just enough for me to blessed with. Luv ya kiddos!
