Paint me on your rock, mister!
The pics below are legit. This rock, near a gravel pit in rural Iowa, gets painted and repainted by this dude who is a pretty good artist, especially since he is using a rock as a canvas. Now, I got this in an email forward and here is what the text said:
There is a huge rock near a gravel pit on Hwy.25 in rural Iowa.
For generations, kids have painted slogans, names, and obscenities on this rock, changing its character many times. A few months back, the rock received its latest paint job, and since then it has been left completely undisturbed. It’s quite an impressive sight. Be sure to scroll down and check out the multiple photos. (all angles) of the rock.
I looks as tho’ the flag was draped over the rock, but it’s not. It’s actually painted on the rock too.
Please note how the ‘bad’ youth of America used to paint all sorts of crap on the rock until this new dude made the nice mural. And since then, the ‘bad’ youth have stopped painting over it. It’s a good lesson. Patriotism overwhelms the urge to tell everyone on Rt. 25 that “Cecilia is a skank.” And I am glad that the artistic work of the kid is being respected.
But I am wondering if the subject matter of the mural is why the other kids stay away from it now. I mean, if the kid had decided to paint viking maidens and wolves and wizards and shit (like my van) would they still have left it alone? I like to think yes, because the kid worked hard on it. But I think the only way we can tell is if someone paints over his rock with wizards, etc.
Which puts us in a pickle. Do we hate America if we paint wizards over the POW flag? Or are we looking to see if the youth of Iowa respects artwork more than our fallen servicemen and women? Well, in order to try and solve this without fucking anything up, I have decided to start a fund to buy Iowa a second rock*. I estimate the cost of finding and transporting the rock to be about 14,000 dollars, and I am taking donations via my PayPal. Let’s prove to the people of the rest of the country that Iowa spray painters respect both Americas AND art!
Now that is pretty damn neat. At least now I’ll stop getting those strange phone calls late at night. Oh btw my check for the new rock is in the mail, postdated of course.
