I am a little younger than most people who write for this place so my main memories of Isaac Hayes are based around South Park, where he played perhaps my favorite character of the first few seasons, Chef. This is a shame because he was a pretty amazing musician as some of you all can attest. I know his hits, Shaft, Hyperbolicsyllabicsesquedalymistic and Lets Stay Together but I just haven’t given him a chance like I should have. I will correct this tonight, but for now I will just mourn the loss of this great musician and man.

All this death is really bringing down the weekend.
Wow, a lot of talented people dying recently.
MORGAN FREEMAN LIVES!
He’s god though. He can’t die.
It didn’t help George Burns any…
Wow, Issac Hayes and Bernie Mac both died this week. They were good friends also and I think Issac did the music for the Bernie Mac show.
Isaac’s career went back to the 50’s… but the news media only focuses on Shaft and Chef.
d.c.
He was a great singer and I used to listen to his music when I was a nipper. Comes to us all in the end.
I loved it when Isaac’s career received some juice by being on South Park. It meant a whole new generation got to know his talent. Yeah, it was a bummer weekend, so much death.
Issac did not do Let’s Stay Together, Al Green did. His loss his terrible (and too soon). He is as his album from the ’70s indicates; “Hot Buttered Soul.” I won’t only mourn Issac the man, Issac the vocalist or Issac as the chef on South Park. I will mourn one of my favorite fictitious people, Gandy Fitch, the ex-con and former cellmate of Jim Rockford (played by James Garner) in the The Rockford Files. He played that character (on more than one episode) with a self-effacing toughness. Gandy was hardened by a bad life but still had a good heart. Gandy was Issac. I will miss him!
