Kendra Sartorelli is a I am a veteran to the Gallery WIHM event. She is a Monster painter / artist.
What motivates you to do what you do?
I’ve loved monsters and horror for as long as I can remember! I feel inspired by the many monsters I’ve encountered through film, TV, literature and other forms of popular culture. I use this inspiration to make original monsters of my own, which I create using acrylic paints and mediums on wood panels. I enjoy using a wide variety of acrylics to push my creativity and make my monsters as 3D and interesting as possible. My artwork always aims to make the viewer smile, and I hope to inspire a love of monsters in others!
Who is your favorite woman who does what you do?
My favourite female contemporary artist creating original monster paintings is an awesome lady who goes by the name Pseudo5. Her painted wooden monsters are truly amazing and awe inspiring! Similar to my own art, she uses texture and glow in the dark elements to make her monsters as interesting as possible. She also designs fabulous enamel pins, and runs a company called Almost Amusing where she collaborates with other horror artists to create pins based on their artwork!
If you had one wish for women in your space in 2020, what would it be?

Share a practical tip for a woman who wants to do what you do.
Try lots of different ways of making art and expressing your creativity. There are so many great art supplies available at your local art supply or craft store! Find your own way of working in your own style. You can create texture, add glitter or even try neon and phosphorescent paints! It’s important to have fun while making artwork.
Inspire someone who is not where they want to be in the industry yet.
Keep painting! Focus on what inspires you and makes you happy, and try to get even a little bit done every week. Even during your roughest times in life, it’s important to work on your art. Having a creative outlet can be a great way to feel better about yourself.
What scares you?
The world is a scary place, and life can be really scary. But I try not to dwell on it too much.
What projects do you have coming up?
I’m currently working on some monstrous clown paintings for an upcoming clown-themed group exhibition at the Super Wonder Gallery in Toronto. I’m also completing a couple of unique and hand painted monster jewelry boxes that will be for sale soon at my shop in Arts Market in Toronto.
