How well do you think horror is represented in the podcast world?
I think there has been a phenomenal renaissance, if you will, in relation to horror and podcasting. Podcasting allows for an even playing field among fans whether they be new to the genre or seasoned genre experts. Horror in particular is having its heyday through podcasting at the moment giving us some of the best scripted and non-scripted genre related shows.
What about women-led podcasts? In your experience, are they common or rare in horror?
Sistas are doing it for themselves! Watch out boys club because we have something to say about horror and you’re going to listen! Ha!Ha! In all seriousness I am so proud of my sister horror podcasters out there. Whether it be through true crime, round table style discussions, or straight movie reviews women are making their opinions heard. We have so much insight to offer the genre and podcasting has allowed us to take control and be in charge of creating content on our terms. In my case specifically I consider myself so lucky to be the female voice among three other great guys. I have the unique opportunity to bring a female perspective to a fun, playful, and diverse conversation.
What podcast/podcaster influenced you to begin podcasting and why?
To be honest I did not search out being a podcaster and only listened to podcasts occasionally. Had it not been for Doc reaching out to me and introducing me to the world of HNR (Horror News Radio) and its family of podcasts I wouldn’t be where I am now. He would be my biggest influence and greatest supporter and I can’t thank him enough for being a great mentor and showing me how cool it is to nerd out about the weird things we love and other people will want to listen.
Inspire someone who is just starting out in the podcast world.
DO IT!!! Seriously, just do it. There are so many worse things in the is world than failure, in particular, the regret of never having tried. So fail, be embarrassed, mess up, and learn more and more each step of the way. You got this!
What’s your favorite experience as a woman horror podcaster so far?
The feedback! Hearing from listeners makes me grin like the Cheshire cat. I love interacting with listeners and hearing their stories and opinions. One of my favorite comments was a dad saying I was and inspiration and role model to his daughter. That’s the good stuff.
What do you have coming up?
Next up I will be a guest cosplayer and NC Comic Con Oak City! March 15-17, 2019.
